AUT stands for the Auckland University of Technology, which is a tertiary education provider in New Zealand. It is the country’s largest university and offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees in a range of fields.
History of the AUT
The Auckland University of Technology was established in 1995 through the amalgamation of three existing tertiary institutions: the Auckland Institute of Technology, the Auckland College of Education, and the School of Engineering, Technology and Commerce. The three institutions had all been in existence since the 1950s and had been providing tertiary education in the Auckland region for decades.
The Auckland Institute of Technology began as a technical college in 1895, while the Auckland College of Education was established in 1957 as a teacher training college. The School of Engineering, Technology and Commerce was established in 1966 as a technical college providing engineering, technology and commerce qualifications.

Academic Programs at AUT
The Auckland University of Technology offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in areas such as business, engineering, health sciences, media, design, and education. The university also offers research degrees in fields such as mathematics, information sciences, law, and environmental sciences.
The university’s academic programs are divided into five faculties: Faculty of Business and Law; Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies; Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences; Faculty of Culture and Society; and Faculty of Te Ara Poutama (Maori and Indigenous Development).

The Auckland University of Technology has four campuses located across Auckland. The main campus is located in the central city, while the other campuses are in North, South and West Auckland.
The university’s facilities include lecture theatres, libraries, research labs, study spaces, and computer labs. There are also a range of sporting facilities, including a gym, swimming pool, and sports fields.
